1850s Ambrotype Womans Portrait **G.P. Taylor
1850s Ambrotype Womans Portrait **G.P. Taylor
This was my first ambrotype. The piece was interesting to me due to the layered glass and paralaxing of the background. To think that this is likely the only surviving image of this woman that otherwise would never be remembered is so fascinating to me. Ambrotypes weren't cheap either back in the day. The frame is stamped "G.P.Taylor" placing it in Alexandria, Virginia in the 1850s. This piece is one-of-a-kind and hand tinted with a tin backdrop. 🤩
DIMENSIONS: 2 3/4" x 3 1/4".
CONDITION: Over 170 years old in fair condition. The chemical of the negative exposure is crackled and the image is dark (SEE PHOTOS). The frame has some oxidation on the face. This is not the highest quality ambrotype, but it's one-of-a-kind.
IMPORTANT: I took detailed photos so please review before you purchase. This item is non-refundable.
